Assist device surgery
Mechanical assist device were originally developed to bridge the time till a heart for transplantation becomes available. In the last decade continues flow left ventricular assist devices( LVAD) allow a permanent implantation in patients unsuitable for transplantation.
LVAD implantation can be performed by a full split of your breast bone (sternotomy) or minimal invasive by small incisions under the breast or a partial sternotomy.
Together with our team we offer the following services:
- Short-term assist device (ECMO/ECLS) for heart and lung failure
- Long-term assist devices (LVAD) for bridge to transplant
- Long-term assist devices (LVAD) for destination (currently not for NHS patients due to regulatory restrictions)
