Tricuspid valve repair and replacement

The tricuspid valve, or right atrioventricular valve, is on the right dorsal side of the mammalian heart, between the right atrium and the right ventricle. The function of the valve is to prevent back flow of blood into the right atrium.

In the majority of the cases tricuspid valve surgery is required if the valve function is impaired due  to degenerative diseases or infections. In cases with a leaking valve the normal valvular function can be restored by reconstructive techniques. If the repair is not possible (majority of stenotic diseases)  the valve can be replaced by either biological or mechanical prosthesis. The surgery can be either performed conventionally by a full sternotomy (split of your breast bone) or minimal invasive using limited access routes to reduce pain and achieve better cosmetic results. Both approaches can be perfomred without impairing safety.

Together with my team I offer the following services:

  • Tricsupid valve repair
  • Tricuspid valve replacement
  • Tricuspid valve and concomitant cardiac surgery such as CABG and aortic surgery
  • Full sternotomy and minimal invasive access surgery

The choice of procedure and / or heart valve prosthesis deserves an individual assessment and requires adjustment to your needs and expectations.
